General Overview of Responsibilities
Harkey Construction projects include residential and light commercial work such as custom homes, remodels, additions, and tenant improvements. The Working Project Supervisor performs this role under the direction of the General Superintendent while supporting daily field operations and project execution. This is a working leadership position where the supervisor remains actively involved with bags-on in carpentry production while directing crews, coordinating subcontractors, and maintaining jobsite production, safety, and quality.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 6+ years carpentry experience
- Experience leading carpentry crews
- Strong knowledge of framing, siding, and finish carpentry
- Ability to read construction drawings and perform layout
- Working knowledge of CAL OSHA safety requirements
- Project Supervisor is a “bags-on” leader, comfortable working while supervising the job, crew and subcontractors.
- Comfortable with technology to maintain appropriate documents in Procore software including but not limited to Daily Logs, RFIs, safety reports, timesheets, and job site photos.
- Valid California driver’s license with clean DMV record
Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead and manage carpenters, apprentices, and laborers
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors as needed for the duration of the project
- Line out daily work assignments and production goals
- Monitor crew productivity and adjust work plans
- Mentor apprentices and developing carpenters
- Take ownership of schedule, safety, and quality
- Coordinate and perform required inspections with local jurisdictions, special inspectors, and utilities.
- Oversee all phases of the project from initial planning to completion, bringing the project in on time and under budget.
- Lead by example with professionalism and work ethic
Construction Responsibilities
- Perform and lead high-end rough carpentry, including layout and framing for walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, beams, and structural components while guiding crew members and verifying accuracy
- Perform and oversee high-end finish carpentry, including trim, doors, windows, cabinetry details, and architectural finish elements to ensure work meets Harkey Construction craftsmanship standards
- Read and interpret construction drawings and guide the crew in accurate layout, installation, and sequencing of construction activities
- Lay out and construct wall systems including studs, plates, headers, and structural framing components while ensuring proper alignment and structural integrity
- Lead installation of floor framing systems including joists, beams, and subflooring while maintaining proper layout and fastening requirements
- Frame roof systems including rafters, trusses, blocking, and roof sheathing while directing crew members and maintaining structural accuracy
- Install and verify structural and exterior sheathing, ensuring proper fastening patterns and alignment
- Install exterior doors and windows ensuring proper flashing, sealing, and alignment while guiding crew members through proper installation techniques
- Install building weather barriers, flashing systems, and moisture protection components to ensure proper building envelope performance
- Install exterior siding systems including trim, corner boards, and related exterior carpentry elements
- Construct decks, exterior stairs, and other exterior framing components when required
- Ensure all carpentry work performed by the crew meets Harkey Construction’s quality standards for craftsmanship, accuracy, and finish
Safety & Jobsite Standards
- Maintain knowledge of CAL OSHA safety requirements
- Ensure crews follow jobsite safety protocols
- Run or participate in regular safety meetings and toolbox discussions
- Oversees & maintains clean and organized jobsites & work areas.
Customer Service & Job Site Standards
- Leads and oversees the entire job site for a very high level of customer service and client satisfaction as much of our work takes place in clients’ homes and businesses
- Leads and oversees professional communication with clients, subcontractors and crews
- Oversees the protection of customer property including floors, finishes, landscaping, and furnishings
- Performs and oversees that dust barriers and drop cloths, and other protection methods are installed when appropriate to minimize disruption and protect finished spaces.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry materials weighing 80+ pounds regularly
- Work at heights and climb ladders
- Stand, bend, climb, and perform labor throughout the workday.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in order to maintain awareness of jobsite hazards and follow safety procedures

Work Hours
Monday through Friday | 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Overtime as needed)
